Rewarding staff for good work makes great business sense. It shows your staff that you care, and helps avoid staff turnover.

Now, valuing your team is something that should be at the very top of your priority list. Unfortunately, 79% of employees say that they left the position because they didn’t feel appreciated.

So recognising good work is important, and rewarding staff for work well done should always be a part of your routine. A little bit of acknowledgment and reward can go a long way. Especially when it comes to keeping people on the same page and working towards the goals you have set for the business.

A cohesive, engaged team is the goal. It’s all about making your workers feel great. When they do a great job is the perfect time to lay that on really thick. Maya Angelou says people will forget what you said, they will forget what you did, but people never forget how you made them feel.

With that said, it can sometimes be a little tricky deciding the best way to reward work well done. So today let’s have a look at three simple ways that you can reward outstanding workers.

Financial / Physical 

This is literally giving your team member a gift or some bonus pay. If they’re working remotely you could stick a gift in the mail, or buy them a hamper. When deciding on a gift, try to choose something that shows you have been listening, or you know that they need. Little choices can make all the difference to a gift, far beyond its monetary value.

Social / Relational

This is where you might have lunch with the boss, or some other kind of celebratory event. If members of the team are working remotely, you can still connect on Zoom. You could even order some food to be sent out to where they’re working. This way you can all enjoy that social time together to reward and acknowledge great performance

Time-Based

Alternatively, you can give your excellent performer an early mark or a late start. Maybe a nice long lunch or even the day off. Time is one of the most valuable assets we have, and showing your staff that you value their time can go a long way. Once again, listening is key. If you know they have something they would love to do and you give them that chance, they will remember it.

Rewarding staff is just good business. You want your staff to be keen as mustard, and offering motivating rewards is one of the best ways to do this. They’re going to feel like it really is rewarding to do great work for you and your business. Especially when you’re working to keep a remote team cohesive and on track.
